Greener Home Heat Pump Resources For Ottawa Homeowners

When Will I Receive My Greener Home Heat Pump Grant?

If you are looking for ways to make your home more energy-efficient and reduce your carbon footprint, you may be interested in the Canada Greener Homes Initiative. This is a federal program that offers grants, rebates and interest-free loans for eligible home retrofits, such as installing a heat pump.

A heat pump is a device that transfers heat from one place to another, using electricity. It can provide both heating and cooling for your home, depending on the season. Heat pumps are more energy-efficient than conventional furnaces and air conditioners, because they move heat rather than generate it.

The Canada Greener Homes Initiative offers up to $10000 in rebates for installing qualifying energy efficiency products in your home, as well as up to $600 for the pre- and post-retrofit energy evaluations.

How Long Does It Take To Receive The Rebate in Ottawa in June 2023?

Demand for the Greener Home Heat Pump Grant in Ottawa is skyrocketing this summer. Energy Audits are starting to have a wait time to be completed. The current wait time to receive the Greener Home Rebate in Ottawa is between 3-8 months depending on the wait time of the audit, wait time of the installation, and wait time for the post audit and grant approval (plus administrative time). We expect that this time will increase in the future as demand for the program continues to increase.

Will My Ottawa Home Qualify For the Greener Home Grant?

To qualify, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • You own a detached, semi-detached, row or mobile home on a permanent foundation.
  • You have completed a pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation by a registered energy advisor.
  • You have installed an eligible heat pump model that meets the minimum efficiency requirements.
  • You have completed a post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation to verify the energy savings.

The rebate amount will depend on the type and efficiency of the heat pump you choose, as well as the climate zone where you live. You can also get additional rebates for other energy-efficient upgrades, such as insulation, windows and doors, smart thermostats and solar panels.

To apply for the Canada Greener Homes Initiative, you need to register online and book your pre-retrofit evaluation. You will also need to provide proof of ownership and occupancy of your home, as well as receipts and invoices for the retrofit work. The program is expected to run until September 30, 2031 or until the funds are exhausted.
